Scripture Memorization #1
Join me in memorizing a passage of Scripture each week to help fight against the lies of the enemy, and preach the Gospel to our hearts. Each passage will line up with the theme of our Sunday message.
It is also important that we know the context of each passage (too many verses are pulled from their context!). So I will add a brief comment under each passage about the context, so that we take that into account as we seek to align our hearts and minds with the reality of Jesus and all we have in him.
January #1. Psalm 73:25–26
[25] Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
[26] My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:25–26 (ESV)
Context: A Psalm of Asaph when he was struggling with doubts based on his circumstances and sight. In this section he is reminding himself of the bigger eternal picture and preaching the truth about the character of God and his faithfulness to his own heart. In v. 25, he is acknowledging that nothing in the universe can truly and ultimately fulfill his desires but God himself. This life and this body is passing away, but in Jesus, we will experience his life and joy and inheritance forever, as a joint heir. In summary, he is reminding his heart that Jesus is better!
